CAFÉ IDENTITY
You have been commissioned to create a name and brand identity for a new café, situated either on the British coastline, or in the British countryside. A further decision you need to make is whether the café is a ‘one-off’, site specific to a single location – which would allow you to look in greater depth at a particular piece of coastline or countryside, or part of a new ‘chain’, whereby your solution is appropriate for general application to any coastal environment, or any countryside location.
STICKS & STONES
Each cup starts with something special. Heritage. Here at STICKS&STONES we are dedicated to showcasing the heritage of the land through all our products. That land is Mynydd Preselau. We are a Cafe situated at the heart of the Preseli Hills. We’ve crafted all our Eco Friendly products to capture the essence of the hills with every sip. We want to celebrate the overlooked trades like stone masonry and carpentry. That’s why our Cafe and all its furniture is made from real materials, by real people, right here in Pembrokeshire. Come join us for a cup and discover even more treasures we have to offer.
LOGO
The name of the cafe is STICKS&STONES. ‘Sticks’ refers to the rurality of the cafe and of course, the ‘Stones’ refer to the hills famous ‘Bluestones’. This condensed slab serif really represents the brand and emulates the beauty of nature through rugged rocks. The yellow represents ‘THE GOLDEN ROAD’ and the blue hues are samples from ‘Bluestone’. The six sections represents the 6 mains peaks of the hills.
COFFEE CUPS
The size of the coffee is determined by its cup, taking inspiration to three peaks. 536m is a Large coffee. 468m is a medium coffee. 365m is a small coffee.
APRON
This apron is designed directly from stones found on the Preseli Hills.
BACKPACK
This backpack is inspired by the cafe’s typeface. Oblong. This had provided a warming hand made feel that emulates the ethos of STICKS&STONES.
MASCOT
This is Pluto. He is based off the stone, Dolerite, most commonly known as Bluestone within the Preseli hills. Dolerite is a Plutonic Igneous rock. He is black and white in regards to minimal ink on our packaging. A fez of wisdom is situated on his head as he informs children of the facts within the Preseli’s.
MEAL BOX
Carn Menyn is one of the sites where you can find ‘Bluestone’. The word ‘Menyn’ means butter in welsh. Butter being a key ingredient used in sandwiches, found within the CARN MENYN MEAL BOX.
MILK CARTON
Carn Menyn Meal Box Chocolate Milkshake. Produced by Bonni’s Dairy accompanied by a game with ‘Pluto’ on its side.
ICE CREAM
'Bronze Age Brownie' refers to Pembrokeshire’s Celtic heritage. The ice cream is from ‘Bonni’s Dairy’ and will be hand scooped on site for customers.
6 X PIN BADGES
These Badges represent the Geology of the Preseli Hills. Showcasing the types of rock found within the range. Once all collected, they will fit together to form the Cafe’s Logo.
WALL INFOGRAPHIC
This is a showcase of all the facts surrounding the Preseli Hills. Linking the cafe mascot to more in-depth knowledge to appeal to an older age demographic.
