The Lion King
My Uncle Bill passed away in June 2018. The passing of my uncle was my first experience of death and intense grief. I promised myself to use this grief for good and let it fuel my passion to go to university. Well, here I am.
Growing up it was just me and my mum. However, my Uncle Bill was always the father figure I looked up to. As a child, my mum and I would go to visit him in London every year on the train from Pembroke Dock to Paddington Station. He was a black belt in Judo that could belt out New York, New York by Frank Sinatra to a T. This piece reflects a moment in 2002 when my uncle took me and my mum to watch The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre. At this point of my life I was guarded from all the evil in the world. I didn’t have a single worry. I was with the best people In the world, I felt safe, I felt loved and I felt like I couldn’t possibly want for anything. I had the feeling of pure happiness.
Whatever life throws at you,
Remember who you are.
